Bed Rest Coaching

Inspiring Patience and Faith

individual coaching × Community support

It is estimated that 1 in 5 pregnant women in the U.S. are prescribed bed rest each year.  Most women on bed rest spend an average of 23 hours in bed per day and are awake for roughly 18 of those hours.  More often than not, that time is filled with anxiety and fear due to the uncertainty of a high-risk pregnancy.  Constant stress can be harmful to your unborn baby and the most important thing you can do while on bed rest is to reduce those stressful thoughts.  It's a lot easier said than done and that is why I am here to coach you through it.  My name is Jessica Fisher and I am a Certified Professional Coach specializing in supporting women on bed rest due to high-risk pregnancy.

Personalized coaching reduces stress so you can realign your focus to giving birth to a healthy, full term baby.  Whether you are on strict hospital bed rest for several months or home bed rest for a couple of weeks, coaching can be customized to fit your individual needs.

MY STORY

On December 21, 2011 at 19 weeks pregnant with boy/girl twins, I was abruptly placed on hospital bed rest because of pre-term labor due to an incompetent cervix. Right after being admitted into the hospital, I received a cerclage to help keep the babies inside. With regular contractions and no sign that the pre-term labor was slowing down, I was given strict instructions to stay in bed and was also prescribed anti-contraction medication. The fate of my babies was so uncertain that I was preparing myself for the worst.

During these first few days in the hospital, I was feeling extremely anxious, isolated, and scared. I knew that I had to talk to other women in my same situation to help me cope with what was going on. I quickly created a private Facebook group so that all of the moms on bed rest in the hospital could talk with each other in a safe and supportive forum.

In addition to the Facebook group, I also started the blog "Broadway Babies" to document what I was experiencing. Both the blog and the Facebook group started to gain attention from the hospital administration due to the positive feedback they were receiving from the bed rest patients. It was clear that these kind of interactions had a positive impact on patient morale so the hospital decided to create an in-person antepartum support group inspired by the virtual group that I created. Led by the hospital social worker, these in-person meetings took the Facebook group to the next level proving that gaining support from others in your same situation can sometimes be the best medicine.

After 122 days of being on bed rest, I made it to full term with my twins and successfully delivered two healthy babies on April 21, 2012. I attribute the long bed rest stay and positive outcome to being able to connect with others that were in my same situation, figuring out exactly how to pass the time in a productive way, and being able to successfully reduce stress. After experiencing this life changing journey, I decided to make this my life purpose.

Since 2012, I have continued my mission and have supported moms all across the country by coaching them through the bed rest process. After my own bed rest experience, I decided to pursue a professional coach certification with an emphasis of specializing in supporting moms on bed rest due to high-risk pregnancy. I received my Certified Professional Coach certification from The Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching (iPEC) which is accredited by the International Coach Federation.

I live in Southern California with my three miracle babies, Ella, Ethan, and Brayden. After going through such a high risk pregnancy with the twins, I was not planning on having any more children. I surprisingly discovered I was pregnant with a singleton and was very worried I would have to go through bed rest a second time. Luckily, this pregnancy was completely different and 100% boring, according to my doctor. It was a huge blessing for me to be able to experience what a normal pregnancy felt like and get to do all of things that I missed out on the first time around. On June 4, 2014, I delivered a healthy baby boy at 38 weeks.

TESTIMONIALS

"Jessica is a lifesaver! When my twin pregnancy was threatened by an incompetent cervix, Jessica guided me to the best course of action to save my baby girls.  Jessica understands all of the fear, anxiety, and stress that comes with bed rest and she has wonderful tips and techniques for surviving it all.  Just being able to talk to someone who has been through it and survived was a blessing.  From helping me envision my healthy babies to keeping a positive attitude, Jessica really understood what I was going through and helped me stay sane and manage all the stress and worries.  I now have two wonderful baby girls, thanks to Jessica!"

 -Stacy R.

“After an easy first pregnancy, and an even easier 24 weeks into my second pregnancy, I was devastated when I began to have a few preterm labor symptoms that sent me to L&D on two separate occasions, and ultimately to strict bed rest for an indefinite period of time. During those first few days on bed rest, I was in a dark place. I was scared, anxious, sad, and lonely, unsure about what the next hour would bring me. I couldn't take care of my 2 year old. I couldn't eat or sleep. After browsing through bed rest help materials on the Internet, I found Jessica's information and immediately contacted her to sign up for her unlimited calls package. Jessica was phenomenal and completely changed my outlook -- she understood everything I was going through and gave me the tools I needed to alleviate my stress and anxiety throughout my 8 week bed rest journey. Without her, I have no doubt that my body wouldn't have been able to handle the stress and I would have delivered prematurely. My doctor even told me that he was shocked I've made it this far. Now, I am 37 weeks pregnant and everyone is certain that I will make it to close to 40 weeks (or beyond!). Jessica is a true lifesaver and I cannot recommend her enough!”

-Kim F.

“I was put on bed rest after an emergency cerclage due to shortened/funneling cervix. I was facing more than 4 months of restricted mobility (no more than 30 min on my feet total per day) in the middle of a pandemic on top of the constant fear that I would lose my baby. Within two weeks, I knew I needed help if I was going to make it through this experience with my sanity intact. Thank goodness for Jessica, the bed rest life coach!!! For the first two months we talked every day. She taught me strategies to help manage my fear and anxiety, structure my seemingly endless days to feel more productive and improve my mindset to be more positive and hopeful. My pregnancy was mentally and emotionally grueling but thanks to Jessica, I had tools to help me through it. My daughter was born strong and healthy at 38 weeks and I will forever be grateful to Jessica for the role she played in getting us across the finish line.”

-Devon C.

"I was placed on modified bed rest at home at 13 weeks, and I couldn't believe how difficult it was for me emotionally and physically.  I was so fortunate to speak with Jessica when I did; she validated my feelings and helped me to recognize that many women had been through the same situation as I had.  She also offered support and helped me to refocus and remember I was doing all of this to reach the ultimate goal of a happy and healthy baby.  She also offered practical tips on how to spend my time so I wouldn't go crazy in bed!  My outlook was greatly improved after talking with Jessica; she helped me to make the best of one of the most difficult times of my life, and I am forever grateful to her!"

-Jenni I.

"Going from a happy glowing mother-to-be to feeling alone on bed rest (days on end) is a very traumatic experience. I had the pleasure of meeting and spending time with Jessica Fisher while both on bed rest at UCLA Santa Monica. Through our meetings she inspired me to mimic her positivity and endurance, not just for for my benefit, but for our unborn children. Getting to know her was-and still is- inspiring and refreshing. Jessica is a positive and beautiful individual with vast knowledge and first hand experience of being on bed rest and the tools to happily get through it."

 -Stacy M.

"Thank you so much for all that you do. I know that I would not have made it through without you and having your blog to read. I was able to stay really positive during my bed rest because of your inspiration."

-Alice H.

"I remember the small, white napkin the nurse discreetly handed me with a note scribbled from Jessica Fisher reaching out to see if I wanted to join the bed rest support group at Santa Monica UCLA. Jessica's initiative to unite a group of moms all on bed rest at the hospital, but separated by walls, confined to bed and some even further tethered by contraction monitoring machines, helped turned a very scary few months of pregnancy into an opportunity to share stories, support and become friends with a group of strong women. Jessica and I experienced bed rest and the birth of our children around the same time and her first-hand experiences, her unbelievable attitude and her compassion to "pay it forward" to mothers on bed rest is such an incredible resource for moms-to-be facing a challenging chapter of their lives. Every mom on bed rest deserves the insight, open ear, encouragement and support that Jessica is so dedicated to providing."

 -Alana G.

"A couple days turned into 75 days...  I searched the Internet for information about bed rest, looked for any books I could find on the subject (which there are very little), and stumbled across a blog that Jessica started on her own bed rest journey called "Broadway Babies."  I found out that she had a Facebook group for other moms on bed rest through her blog, and came to find out she was actually staying at the same hospital!  Being on bed rest in the hospital can be a very lonely experience, especially for me, as I only saw my husband once a week and sporadic visits from family and friends, but the majority of the time, you are alone, just laying there, worrying about whether or not your baby is going to be okay.  Having the support from the Facebook group was so invaluable to me.  Knowing there were other women experiencing the same thing as you gives you an almost instant bond.  The most invaluable part for me was being able to share our fears, joys, and frustrations with each other.  We always had the constant fear for our babies, and sharing those fears with others who have experienced it already or were going through it with you made it a little less scary.  Getting to hear about the births of each other's babies gave me such hope and joy.  Of the women I met at the hospital and from the Facebook group, many have become lifelong friends, and I have gotten to see their miracle babies grow up these last three years. Jessica has a gift in her desire to reach out to other women and bring them together to support one another, and I am so grateful for her!  I honestly don't know what I would have done without having that support system she put in place while staying at the hospital.  Having been through it herself and staying so positive and transparent in sharing her own experiences, she made such an impact for so many of us, and will be an excellent resource anyone looking for advice and support throughout their own bed rest journey."
